Can members of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) be a Freemason?
Of course! Absolutely! Please Do! Since Freemasonry's only requirement is that you believe in God, all members of the LDS faith are welcome. Since we don't ask a member what religion they claim, we really don't know how many of our members are LDS. Here in Salt Lake City and in Utah, we believe there are a great many.
The next reasonable question would be, "Are Mormon's and Masons at odds with each other?"
No, not today. There are those that claim Joseph Smith was murdered by Freemasons. But, Joseph Smith, as well as Brigham Young, was a Freemason. In reality, the LDS Church and the Free and Accepted Masons of Utah "buried the hatchet" nearly a quarter of a century ago. Want more details? Click here for more...
What makes Progress Lodge so special?
Every lodge is different and all lodges are fine lodges filled with good men. Progress Lodge is different from other lodges in that we are a eclectic mixture of good men from diverse backgrounds. Early Progress Lodge members were railroaders but, alas, most of those have crossed the great divide into the next territory. Today, we enjoy the company of good men from industries such as finance, computers, government, military, firefighters, and others. We welcome all good men. If nothing else, consider that we meet on Monday nights -- an easy night for most that doesn't conflict with most other community activities.
Why don't you have more information on Freemasonry on your site?
When there is so much great material on other web sites, we prefer to focus on letting you get to know us. We provide links to many sites about Freemasonry. Please review them and, when you've decided to become a Freemason, come back to our site and download a petition.
Is Freemasonry a religion?
No! It is a fraternity. But, don't take our word for it. See "Not A Religion"
Isn't Freemasonry a Satanic organization?
Aaaarrrrggghhh! What a load of lunch meat! But, again, don't believe us. Click here for more info....
Can women join Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is a men's fraternity not unlike how women have sororities. There are, however, quite a few appendant bodies that welcome women. These include the Order of the Eastern Star, Job's Daughters, Daughter's of the Nile, and Ladies of the Mystic Shrine. Refer to our Lodge Library for links to these organizations.
